Makaibari Tea Estate

Makaibari Tea Estate ABOUT MAKAIBARI: The Makaibari Tea Estate, located 4 Kms from the city centre of Kurseong is one of the most renowned tea names of the world. Some of the most costly tea (Upto Rs. 22000 per kg) is cultivated here. The Tea Estate was established in 1859 and was the first bio organic (no chemical fertilization used) tea garden in India. The total area of the Tea Estate is 1000 acres, out of which 650 acres remains under forests. The estate is home to a wide variety of wild animals and 12 forest rangers are appointed to keep track of this.

ACCOMMODATION: The Estate offers 6 double rooms and offers meals prepared from the organic vegetables grown in the kitchen garden.

PLACES OF INTEREST: An early morning walk gives a chance to witness an exotic sight of the Makaibari Tea Estate Himalayas and its flora and fauna. Tea tourism or home stay both the options are available here. Ideally created for Students and bag packers to stay at comparatively low cost and enjoy the stay. This is run by a group of young people with enthusiasm. Short treks, sightseeing, Tea processing, tea testing, tea garden trek, etc are all organized by them. 7 to 15 days course on tea is done by us with their participation. Other places of interest nearby are Religious sites like The Ambhotia Shiva Temple, Giddapahar Durga Mata Mandir, Jagdish Mandir on Bank Road (on way to the Eagle's Craig), This temple has very old idols (almost 300 years old) of Lord Jagannath, St. Paulseak Church on Hill Cart Road, near St. Josephs School, Buddhist Gumpha in Montieviot, Buddhist Gumpha in Dowhill Road and Juma Mosque in Hat Bazaar. Some of the natural sites to visit are Eagle's Craig, Deer Park - Now known as Dowhill Park, The Kholas (Water Falls - Springs) like Whistle Khola (named by the Britishers), as there is a bend and the toy train whistles when passing through it.

Runglee Rungliot Tea Estate

Runglee Rungliot Tea Estate ABOUT RUNGLEE RUNGLIOT: It’s perched on a hill slope with elevations Runglee Rungliot tea estate is nearly 45 Kms from Siliguri on the way to Darjeeling. The road is quite steep and the drive pleasant. The tea estate is on the lee ward side of the mountain hence is a cool shady Hill slope carpeted with lush green bushes, Runglee Rungliot is beautiful to look at. The views are mesmerizing with the Himalayan range and peaks are visible on a clear day. The garden is spread along the undulating slopes of green valley and a luxurious wooden bungalow surrounded by flowering orchids and tall dark pine trees makes it one of the most beautiful tea estates of the region. The estate of Runglee Rungliot produces quality orthodox tea and is one of the oldest and establishing gardens of the region. As per saying- a Buddhist Monk from stepped into this garden in search of tea and as he had the taste of the tea served to him he uttered “Runglee Rungliot” literally means ‘this far and no further’.

Runglee Rungliot Tea Estate ACCOMMODATION: The sprawling bungalow with 4 spacious double bed rooms is converted into guest rooms, where the visitors can enjoy an older planter’s comfort as well as can experience the process of tea manufacturing and tea testing.

PLACES OF INTEREST: Ideally located between Darjeeling and Kalimpong, it is just 35 Kms from Kalimpong and Darjeeling both. The stay can be a nice stopover before going to Pelling, Gangtok, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Takdah, Tinchuley, Bara Manguwa, Chota Manguwa, Lamahatta are some of the other tourist destination nearby.

Glenburn Tea Estate

ABOUT GLENBURN: Glenburn is a heavenly little plantation retreat that lies on a hillock above the bank of the River Rangeet, high in the Himalayas, overlooked by the mighty Kanchenjunga mountain range. Started by the Scottish Tea Company in 1959, Glenburn has now passed into the hands of Ones of India’s pioneering tea planting family.

ACCOMMODATION: The accommodation is provides in the heritage bungalow with eight suite rooms, all specious rooms having century old Glenburn Tea Estate furniture, while you relax in front of crackling fire in the privacy of your room. All rooms with private balcony overlook the mountain valley and the mighty Kanchenjunga. The attached bathroom with old fashion bathtub and a hand shower makes you feel colonial times.

The Bungalow is located on the tip of a hill shrouded by the mystical tea garden, surrounded by the picturesque lawn studded with fresh colourful flowers, once you reach the bungalow you would feel like you’ve just reached the playground of nature. Look around; discover seas of tea gardens rolling down towards the horizon. Far from the hustle and bustle, this is the place where you could touch and feel tranquility. You can also stroll down a bit to listen to the hums of the river Zurrantee.

Zurrantee Tea EstateACCOMMODATION: 3 sprawling bedrooms with attached bath with all modern amenities and one Master Suite. The dining and the drawing room with a fireplace are common. ‘Piano Room’, the entertainment zone of the resort, has the facility of cards and pool tables. PLACES OF INTEREST: Places like Suntalekhola (Samsing), Bindu are nearby. Jungle safari is also an option to Gorumara National Park offered to tourist. One can also have a hike to nearby places through the garden and have a look into the tribal settlements like- Toto of Totopara.

Phaskowa Tea Estate
Phaskowa tea estate located in Alipurduar, on the fringe of Buxa Tiger Reserve along the Rydak River bordering Bhutan is an attractive location for tea tourism. A 120 years old garden was started by the British way back in 1897 and in 1967 it was transfer to Charnaria family who is the present owner of this fabulous garden. With 660 acres of plantation area the garden produces high quality tea both CTC and Orthodox leaves.

Phaskowa Tea Estate ACCOMMODATION: The bungalow has 2 Suites the Tropicana and The Sunset room with teak bed, French lace bedspread, beautiful scatter cushions. The floor to floor window gives an awakening view of mountain over the green lawns.

PLACES OF INTEREST: Phaskowa provides various scopes for exploration and excursion with lots of hike and day out. A Jungle Safari to the Buxa Tiger Reserve is the obvious choice for wildlife lover. One Tiger Reserve can also hike to Jayanti Cave. River exploration to Rydak and Jayanti River can also be made. Day tour to Phuentsholling (Bhutan) and Coochbihar is most attraction places nearby.
